2025 Lexus RZ

Safety

Both the Wagoneer S and RZ have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Wagoneer S has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The RZ’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To allow off-road and deep snow capability, Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Wagoneer S. But it costs extra on the RZ.

Both the Wagoneer S and the RZ have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Wagoneer S weighs 1048 to 1448 pounds more than the Lexus RZ. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance (up to 2 visits) on the Wagoneer S for 1 year and unlimited miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the RZ (2/unlimited vs. 1/10,000).

There are almost 10 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer S’ warranty.

Engine

The Wagoneer S Limited 4dr Sport Utility’s standard electric motors produces 299 more horsepower (500 vs. 201) and 328 lbs.-ft. more torque (524 vs. 196) than the RZ 300e’s standard electric motor. The Wagoneer S Limited 4dr Sport Utility’s electric motors produces 192 more horsepower (500 vs. 308) and 203 lbs.-ft. more torque (524 vs. 321) than the RZ 450e’s optional electric motors. The Wagoneer S’ optional electric motors produces 292 more horsepower (600 vs. 308) and 296 lbs.-ft. more torque (617 vs. 321) than the RZ 450e’s optional electric motors.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Wagoneer S All Season Tires gets better mileage than the RZ 450e w/20" Wheels (104 city/90 hwy vs. 102 city/87 hwy MPGe).

The Wagoneer S can travel longer on a full charge than the RZ on a full charge:

Tires and Wheels

The Wagoneer S’ tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the RZ’s standard 60 series front and 55 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Wagoneer S has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the RZ.

The Wagoneer S has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The RZ doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Passenger Space

The Wagoneer S has .7 inches more front hip room, .5 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear legroom, 2.6 inches more rear hip room and 3.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the RZ.

Cargo Capacity

The Wagoneer S 4dr Sport Utility has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the RZ with its rear seat folded (61 vs. 55.6 cubic feet).

Towing

The Wagoneer S has a 3500 lbs. towing capacity. The RZ has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Wagoneer S uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The RZ doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the RZ Premium/Luxury, the Wagoneer S has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster), outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The power windows standard on both the Wagoneer S and the RZ have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Wagoneer S is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The RZ prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Wagoneer S to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The RZ doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Wagoneer S has a standard rear wiper. The RZ doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer S has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The RZ doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Wagoneer S’ passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The RZ doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Wagoneer S has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the RZ.

Recommendations

The Jeep Wagoneer outsold the Lexus RZ by almost six to one during 2024.
