Safety

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Durango SRT are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Dodge Durango SRT has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Range Rover doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Durango SRT has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Durango SRT and the Range Rover have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available crash mitigating brakes and lane departure warning systems.

Warranty

Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Durango SRT 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Range Rover. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Range Rover ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 12 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Durango SRT’s warranty.

Reliability

The Dodge Durango SRT’s engine uses a cast iron block for durability, while the Range Rover’s engines use an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge above average in initial quality. With 28 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is rated below average.

Engine

The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 315 more horsepower (710 vs. 395) and 239 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 406) than the Range Rover P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 187 more horsepower (710 vs. 523) and 92 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 553) than the Range Rover P530’s standard 4.4 turbo V8. The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 167 more horsepower (710 vs. 543) and 239 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 406) than the Range Rover P550e’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 104 more horsepower (710 vs. 606) and 92 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 553) than the Range Rover SV’s standard 4.4 turbo V8.

As tested in Car and Driver the Dodge Durango SRT is faster than the Range Rover P530 4.4 turbo V8:

Fuel Economy and Range

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Durango SRT’s fuel efficiency. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The Durango SRT has 5.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Range Rover 550e PHEV’s standard fuel tank (24.6 vs. 18.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Durango SRT’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Range Rover:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Durango SRT has larger tires than the Range Rover (295/45R20 vs. 275/50R21). The Durango SRT’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Range Rover (295/45R20 vs. 285/40R23).

The Durango SRT’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover’s standard 50 series tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Durango SRT can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Range Rover doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Durango SRT’s wheelbase is 1.8 inches longer than on the Range Rover SWB (119.8 inches vs. 118 inches).

The Durango SRT handles at .88 G’s, while the Range Rover SWB pulls only .73 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Durango SRT Hellcat executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 4.2 seconds quicker than the Range Rover LWB SE (25 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 29.2 seconds @ .56 average G’s).

Cargo Capacity

The Durango SRT’s cargo area provides more volume than the Range Rover LWB SE.

The Durango SRT’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Range Rover’s tailgate’s top part raises up, but the bottom part lowers, getting in the way of loading and making an uneven surface for sliding cargo.

Towing

The Durango SRT’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Range Rover’s (8700 vs. 7715 pounds).

While the Range Rover 550e SWB can only tow 6613, any Durango SRT can tow a minimum of 8700 pounds.

Ergonomics

The Durango SRT’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Range Rover does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Durango SRT has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Recommendations

The Dodge Durango outsold the Land Rover Range Rover by almost three to one during 2024.
